Nakanari
Nakanari was born 1979 in South Taiwan, and from childhood began collecting and designing toys. His favorite hobby grew into a career that he wanted to pursue since childhood. Designing toys never started on paper for him, because he never really liked to draw. Instead, he would picture a design in his head and start molding it out of Super Sculpey, adding new features as he went along.
His distinct designer toys are infused with oriental style and a colorful mixture of innocence and cuteness. The Misfits were the very first toy line he came up with. He used two different characters to show the contrast of good vs. evil.
In 2004, B.B.birdy, premier toy designer and the first to launch Taiwanese designer toys picked up the “Misfits of Nakanari” design for his Funny Club series. That year Nakanari joined birdy by working on the Funny Club Show. As show director for the 2004 Funny Club Show, his idea was to have a number of artists adapt their specific styles from 2D to 3D artwork on blank vinyl
toys. His toy-designing dream was just the beginning. He worked with over 150 global artists, traveled the U.S. from the east to the west coast, and exhibited his pieces all over Asia.
He collaborated with other well-known artists like Emmy Award-winning "Teacher’s Pet" creator, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, graffiti legend "Seen", Cameron Tiede, popular toy designer MAD, sket one, Frank Kozik, Jada Toys, Inc., X-Concept designer Chito, and Mattel’s Hot Wheel head-designer miQ willmOtt.
Nakanari’s work is exhibited and collected around the world.
